DHANGADHI: Police in Dhangadhi of Kailali district on Wednesday arrested more than 70 leaders and cadres of the main opposition CPN-UML after they held a demonstration against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to the city.
The arrestees include the party’s district chairman Dirgha Sodari and secretary Rana Bahadur Chand.
Dahal is scheduled to visit Dhangadhi today to inaugurate the Far-Western Festival.
Though the Prime Minister was scheduled to arrive here at 1 pm, he has not reached the city yet as of 3 pm, according to security agencies of the district.
Meanwhile, police have tightened security in the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City area since early morning today.
Earlier, the main opposition, which has been launching protests against the recently Constitution amendment bill across the nation, had announced to impose a general shutdown in the city in a bid to block the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Dahal would stay in Dhangadhi tonight and address a party function tomorrow before returning to the Valley, according to the party sources.
